Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2013 Kia Soul

Today on our 2013 Kia Soul, we are going to do a test fit on the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System. As you can see here, we are using the 49 inch vortex aero roof crossbars, they are part number is RRVA126B-2 that we have here. They are also available in silver, it's part number RRVA126S-2. The foot packs are part number RRRLKVA and the fit kit and pads that we are using are part number DK237. Now we've already got our front bar installed. I want to go over and install in the rear bar with you, can see how that's going to fit but first let me show you how to put our foot pack together. Now, I like to start with the pad, pads got a small arrow on it, the instruction tell us this should be pointing out and it also tells us that our removable pad here the arrow should be pointing out.

We are going to put those in place, arrow pointing out. There is a round tab and two square tabs, those are going to fit right into appropriate recesses in the bottom and you are going to find that it kind of feel snap into place as you put them in. We'll then place our foot pack right over our threaded insert here in the middle and then we'll thread in our screw or bolt, whatever you like to call it. With that in place let's open the rear doors. With those open we are simply going to place the rack right up on the roof line of the vehicle here. Now we've placed our front bar 31 centimeters to the center from the intersection of where our 2 doors meet.

We've done that measurement on both sides that helps to be sure that we have those feet in line with one another. From there we are going to measure 70 centimeters from the center of our front bar to the center of our rear bar. Now I like using the little edge that is right here on the cap. As long as you are using the same point on both of them, it doesn't necessarily have to be center to center, that seems to be an easier point to hold this fabric tape but use whatever point you want, just make sure it's the same on both of them. All right. This measurement for the rear it's also important to do this on both sides.

That's going to help to be sure that we have the front and rear bar parallel with one another. That will really help us down the road when we start adding some accessories and things like that on to have those running parallel. Now the fit should be to where our rubber pad, it's got a little angled notch in there. You can see right there, that should be just away, just a little bit away from touching the actual side because when we tighten them down, that's kind of flatten out. We'll be sure we've got about the same on both sides.

That side already had the play taken out as you can see there is a little slack here, we are just going to take the slack out of this one. Brings that clip right up around the underside of our roof line there. It's going to put a couple of turns on it and then I'll go over to the other side and do the same thing here, just a couple of turns, we want to tighten it down evenly from side to side, put equal pressure on to give us a good firm hold. Now as you can see we've got a pretty small overhang on the edge of the bar there. They do offer a 59 inch bar, if you want to upsize the kit that we've got here. That part number is RRVA150B-2 in the black or RRVA150S-2 in the silver. That's going to add approximately 5 inches to the end of either side and right now we've got an overhang that's just about 2 inches. We have about 7 inches of overhang if we do go to those upsize bars. Now we've got our bar torqued down nicely side to side, we've got our security covers here, they are going to all come keyed the same. We are just going to slide them in, push them down and we'll turn it from the zero or the O to the C to indicate that we've got that close. That's just going to help protect our roof bars, keep them from coming up messing on it. Place that in as you can see, I've already got the door shut on the driver side, shut the door on the passenger and that will complete today's look at the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System, using part numbers RRVA126B-2, RRRLKVA and DK237 all on our 2013 Kia Soul. .

Seemed to work well with my 2012 Kia Soul. I have only had it on my car for a day at writing this so I can't really give it five stars. I would bump it up to five stars once its been on for a few months. Easy to install, and after doing a bit of research Etrailer.com Had the best deal, and support for installation.

Still holding on tight. Have used it for my kayaks, hauling lumber, and packing camping gear. Has come in really handy.

by:

Sturdy, solid and well built materials. Followed the install instructions to the letter but found I needed to widen the width of the front mounts by 10mm in order for the rubber foot to seat properly on the ledge as shown in the picture provided in the instructions. Unfortunately now the underside track has a gap. Other than that, it is very solid and should hold any amount of gear I choose to carry.

No matter how much I adjusted/tightened my roof rack legs on my 2013 KIA Soul, they never fit tightly and perfectly. When I finished my trip, my rack was loose. An expensive, $500 lesson.

2011 Kia Soul

Love this rack! It was easy to put together and install on my 2011 Kia Soul. It made me love my car!!! Even though other reviews have mentioned some wind noise, I have noticed no nose or anything else annoying about driving around with the rack. I've taken it on one big camping trip last week and it worked great!
Thanks to etrailer for all the great videos and instructions!

Watch the video 4 times to make sure I assembled it correctly. But have to say it was easy especially for me!! I used the rack on my 2012 Kia Soul, which does not have much room for luggage. The rack worked fine.

If you are mechanically inclined. This roof rack system is easy to install. If you are a rookie, let a professional do the install.

Ease of order, receipt, installation and excellent customer service is what I received in this order.
Thank you, e-trailer!

Just followed all the etrailer website prompts for my naked roof Toyota Matrix and it set me up with the three packages needed- rails legs and fitkit. Installed easily enough. I like the little arrow stickers hidden in the door jams for fast re-install later. Held two 10’ kayaks on a 2 hr journey with ease.

by:

Pretty nice rack system. Held up to my 90lb canoe no problem. However a piece did fly off on the highway and the "locking" bar end cap can pull off super easy.
The directions were ok. There is some stuff you have to kind of figure out for yourself, mainly the roof trim. I plan to leave the rack on so I drilled theough the trim

by:

Takes a little while to assemble the rack bars.
The stickers are great I can mark the positions after measuring the distance between the bars.
One of the screws is underneath the bar; it is hard to reach to tighten the bars.
Finally, I got the roof rack installed and it looks good.

by:

This is a perfect fit for our 2015 Prius V with "naked" roof. Instructions were clear and accurate, and the bars are solid and able to support our canoe and kayak easily. We added the air deflector, as there was a bit of wind noise, but now there is none. Great product at much lower price than the big names.

  • Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Parts for a 2012-2013 Kia Soul with Naked Roof
For a 2012-2013 Kia Soul you will be using the parts you linked for the Rhino-Rack Vortex roof rack system as long as you have a naked roof (no raised rails). You'll also need the fit kit system for the legs to connect to your vehicle so when you put all the parts together you will need the following: 49" Vortex Crossbars - # RRVA126B-2 2500 Series Legs - # RRRLKVA Fit Kit - # DK237 Attached is an installation video of this roof rack kit on a 2012 Kia Soul for you to check out.

  • What Crossbar Spread Does Rhino Rack Roof Rack Fit
The Rhino Rack roof rack you mentioned part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK237 is a confirmed fit for your 2013 Kia Soul. Since it attaches to the factory roof rack fixed points on your roof and those are not adjustable there's only one width this rack can install at and that's a spread of 27-1/2 inches. The weight capacity of this rack is also 110 lbs. You'd also need to check the roof capacity of your vehicle and be sure not to exceed the lower of the two figures.

The T-Slot hardware from the Inno Shaper 80 Roof Cargo Basket # INXA568 is compatible with the T-Slots on your Rola Sport Series Roof Rack with GTX Mounting for your 2012 Kia Soul so you are good to go! Just keep in mind that Rola has discontinued this specific roof rack, so if you ever lose or damage a part of the Rola roof rack, or simply find yourself in need of a new roof rack for your 2012 Kia Soul, I highly recommend the Rhino-Rack roof rack, part # RRVA126B-2 (Vortex Aero Crossbars),...

  • Roof Rack and Cargo Basket Recommendation for 2010 Kia Soul
You'll need to install a roof rack on your 2010 Kia Soul to carry a roof cargo basket. Since you have naked roof currently you'd want the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK237. With this rack installed you'd be able to carry a cargo basket like the Rhino Rack cargo basket part # RMCB02 which would work well and measures 57 inches by 42 inches.

For your 2012 Kia Soul with a naked roof you would want the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK237 which is a confirmed fit. The SportRack part # SR1002 is not a confirmed fit for your vehicle so we can't recommend it.

  • Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 2013 Kia Soul
We have several different kayak carrier options for your 2013 Kia Soul, but most of them require a roof rack with crossbars that run side to side, so we will want to start there. If your Soul has a bare roof, then you could install a roof rack like the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack, # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK237. If your Soul has the factory side rails, then you could use the Malone part # MPG201. Once you have the crossbars, you can choose a kayak carrier. I like the J-Style kayak carriers,...

  • What are the Differences Between Roof Bag on Naked Roof and Roof Rack Mounted Bag?
Apart from how the rooftop bags mount there is little difference between the cargo bags that go on the naked roof of your 2013 Kia Soul or one that attaches to a roof rack. To avoid having to put a pricey roof rack on your Soul, I strongly recommend going with a bag that mounts to your naked roof such as the Rightline Gear Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S20. This bag is waterproof, has 15 cubic feet of storage and is 44" long x 36" wide x 19" tall. You can mount the Rightline by running...

  • Best Way to Carry 5 Bikes on a 2012 Kia Soul
All of the 5-bike trailer hitch mount bike racks that we carry will only fit 2 inch trailer hitches. All of the trailer hitches for the 2012 Kia Soul are Class I trailer hitches with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. You will not be able to use a 5-bike rack with the Kia Soul. Class I trailer hitches are only capable of holding 2 bikes maximum. The issue is that when you add more than 2 bikes, that puts too much way too far from the receiver. That creates a lot of stress on the hitch and vehicle...
